Melt-in-Your-Mouth Mongolian Beef with Glossy Garlic Ginger Glaze

Servings: 4

Ingredients

  1. 1 lb flank steak, thinly sliced against the grain
  2. 1/4 cup cornstarch
  3. 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  4. 3 cloves garlic, minced
  5. 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  6. 1/2 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  7. 1/3 cup brown sugar
  8. 1/2 cup water
  9. 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  10. 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  11. 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  12. 3 green onions, sliced (plus extra for garnish)
  13. Steamed rice for serving
  14. Salt and black pepper to taste
  15. Sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

  1. Toss the sliced beef with cornstarch until evenly coated. Let sit for 10 minutes.
  2. Heat oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
  3. Add the beef in batches and sear for 2-3 minutes until crispy on the edges. Remove and set aside.
  4. In the same pan, sauté garlic and ginger for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  5. Add soy sauce, brown sugar, water, hoisin sauce, and sesame oil. Stir and bring to a simmer.
  6. Let the sauce cook for 3-4 minutes until slightly thickened.
  7. Return the beef to the pan and toss to coat in the sauce.
  8. Add green onions and cook for another 1-2 minutes until everything is glossy and well combined.
  9. Garnish with sesame seeds and extra green onions. Serve hot over steamed rice.
